Make a Personal Time Capsule (Serving Others)

When I was in highschool for my English class we made a time capsule and when I opened in 5 years later it was pretty cool! (whoa... I'm old!) So anyways I thought it would be fun to do a time capsule with these girls. When I did it in highschool we had to get objects and we had to write-ups on each of the objects. For this activity we made it a bit simpler and had them fill out answers to questions. We had them put it in a nice envelope and we wrote on the outside "do not open until 2018". We also included a picture of the girls from the day we had the activity. Hopefully they all took it home to thier parents and maybe it will make it until next year if we are lucky ;)

  9. You have other good ideas on this blog but these girls are 8-11 years old they should not be thinking about when they will get married or how many kids they are going to have. I know this is not an activity the cub scouts (also 8-11 years old) would ever have. I think the other categories are great, but we need to let these kids be kids.

  10. Thank-you so much for your opinion, but I actually couldn't disagree more. They can still be kids and spend maybe thirty minutes of their day, one day thinking about their future.

My mom told me the first time I earned maybe 10 cents that I would need to save it for when I went to college because I would be paying my way through. Having that in mind, like having goals as to who you want to marry and who you want to be when you grow up can shape simple decisions along the way.

This activity was meant to be light hearted and fun.. but in a way get them to learn about goal setting and think about what they want their future to be like.

  11. You're amazing and all your ideas are fantastic! Your ward is SO lucky to have you! I agree that it is so important for these girls to set goals and begin thinking now of what they want in the future and a future spouse! I wrote a list when I was a young girl of things that I was looking for in a future spouse. It was a working list that as I got older and had other experiences and YW lessons that made me think of another quality that I found important in a spouse, I added it to the list. It's just like drinking or smoking.....I taught my kids our standards when they were young....far before they would be thinking of those things, so that when the time came that they were offered something that went against the Word of Wisdom, they didn't have to make the hard decision not to take it or struggle with how to handle it, because the decision had been made years ago.

On another note, I would love a copy of your calendar and this Time Capsule activity. I am in our Stake Primary Presidency and I would love to use this for our Stake Activity Day Camp coming up in April. My email is: eternal8mail at cs dot com.

Thank you for sharing your talents!
