Activity Days Easter Egg Hunt - Serving Others

In the Faith In God book, this is one of the recommended activities:

"Make a list of the qualities you like in a person. Choose one quality to develop in yourself. Discuss how showing respect and kindness strengthens you, your family, and others."

I had been trying to think of a fun Easter Activity when I started working on an activity where the girls can learn about a bunch of different qualities, then decide which ones are important to them. I was trying to come up with a way for it to be fun for the girls to learn about the qualities instead of just going over them one by one.

Then I realized this could make a great Easter activity! I figured the qualities could be placed in eggs and then the girls try to get as many of them as they can. Kind of like in life. Then I found a talk by Dieter F. Uchtdorf found here.  He says, "The scriptures describe a number of Christlike attributes we need to develop during the course of our lives. They include knowledge and humility, charity and love, obedience and diligence, faith and hope."

What better qualities to aspire to than those of our Savior, while we celebrate his life and resurrection? While there are many important qualities, perhaps special attention can be paid to those that President Uchtdorf used to describe Christ.

Directions:

1. Place pieces of paper with different qualities written on them in eggs (pictured below, there are at least 60. You may want to plan how many eggs you need based on how many girls you have). You may also choose to include a piece of candy. There are 8 qualities mentioned by Dieter F. Uchtdorf that are qualities of Christ (see quote). These are in blue ink. Perhaps include a special candy with those.

2. Allow the girls to have an Easter egg hunt and get as many eggs as they can.

3. Once all the eggs have been collected, come back together and allow each girl to open an egg one at a time, each taking a turn until all the eggs are gone. Using the definitions page, help the girls learn more about each of the traits, with special attention to the traits mentioned by Dieter F. Uchtdorf. I imagine the girls will get pretty excited for their turn to see what quality is in their egg.

4. Pass out a "Qualities Form" for the girls to fill out so they can write down the qualities that stood out to them, and also choose one quality that they would like to work on. Hand out the Dieter F. Uchtdorf Quote Handout for them to take home (perhaps with an Easter treat). Remind the girls that Easter is a time when we celebrate the life and resurrection of Jesus Christ. One way we can celebrate Him is by trying to be like Him.

And since this activity would be great any time of the year (not just Easter time) I also make it in this color scheme:

Choose the Right - Learning and Living The Gospel

I made this to go along with an activity in the Faith In God book under Learning and Living the Gospel:

Learn to sing “Choose the Right” (Hymns, no. 239). Explain what agency is and what it means to be responsible for your choices. Discuss how making good choices has helped you develop greater faith.
