Articles Of Faith Charades - Primary Activity Days - Fun Article of Faith Lesson!

Such a fun way to have an Article of Faith lesson!!
Hook the computer up to a TV and you are ready to go!

Most church building have TV's, but this activity would also work at a home!

I tried to have each Charades word at least somewhat relate to something in the Article of Faith. Here's the leader key (answer key) that shows the PowerPoint slide with the Charade word under it... some are more intuitive than others but all the Charade words are "easy" and perfect for kids  :)

Latter Day Saint Church History Tour - Early Church Events Lesson for Kids - Primary Church History Activity - Activity Days for Latter Day Saints

I am beyond excited about this activity!! After making and doing this Church History Jeoparty Lesson for my kids, I've kind of been on a roll with church history! I realized my own kids don't know much about it! I grew up going to Palmyra every other summer so I feel like church history was just part of my childhood but my kids are not so lucky! This was a great way to introduce some main topics and give them just a hint of some stories they will hopefully learn more about one day!

I'll let these infographics do the most the explaining but essentially this is a PowerPoint driven lesson where each player/child/participant has a workbook to help them follow along. On each new slide of the PowerPoint, the class will do 3 things:

1. Play Charades. This Charades word is related to the lesson topic and is meant to keep this fun and light for kids.

2. Get the letter they need to fill in their workbook so they can "translate" a Joseph Smith quote at the end of the workbook when they have all the letters.

3. While kids are filling in the letters in their workbook, the leader can share what happened at that location and teach just a little bit. Please feel free to add any info that you know if time allows.

My kids HATED this, so it worked perfectly :)

My kids + a few neighbor kids had a blast with this and I was so happy they actually remembered some things they learned! These files plus more are available HERE :)

Guessing Valentines - DIY Valentines with a riddle!

I made these "Guessing Valentines" for a different project and I thought these could be really fun at activity days! Maybe to add to a service activity in February or maybe you can make a whole activity of making a gift basket for different people in the ward!

The idea is you have to solve the guess what's inside using the clue before you can open it up and eat the candy, making these Valentines just a little more fun!

I separated out the clues for the chocolate in the "Costco Mix" making it a lot easier to just print the Valentines for this candy.

Latter Day Saint Church History Lesson + "Jeoparty" for Kids and Youth - Learn some basics about church history!

I'm embarrassed to say my kids hardly knew a thing about Church History. We live near Salt Lake and I have taken them to the Church History museum and they still didn't know hardly anything. I made this lesson for my own family and think it would make an AWESOME activity days or Family Home Evening.

If you choose to use the digital version of the "Jeoparty", you shouldn't need anything besides a lap top, HDMI cable and your computer (unless you're more tech savvy than I am and you know how to do this a better way).

I started with the Church History Lesson. I got all the information for the slides form LDS.org … there are a lot more topics but I  narrowed it down to highlights with just a couple bullet points on each slide.

1. Young Joseph Smith
2. Joseph Smith's First Vision
3. Moroni Visits Joseph Smith
4. Joseph Smith Marries Emma Hale
5. Joseph Smith Obtains Plates
6. Priesthood Restored
7. Book of Mormon Translation Completed
8. Book of Mormon Published
9. Church Organized
10. Quorum of the Twelve Organized
11. Kirtland Temple Dedicated
12. Joseph Smith Imprisoned in Liberty Jail
13. Relief Society Organized
14. Joseph Smith Martyred
15. Brigham Young Arrives in Salt Lake
16. Salt Lake Temple Dedicated

After the Church History Lesson, divide the group into two different groups for some Church History Jeoparty!

I used the digital version.... so all I did was click the number and the question would appear underneath:

All these files are available on my ETSY and I also included a scorecard for two different teams and of coarse an answer key :) HAPPY Jeaoparty!!

Trick AND Treat - Here is a Trick to your Treat - FUN handout

Interrupting Primary Activity Ideas with this Halloween Trick!

I designed these candy envelopes so you can hide a fun size piece of candy inside and before anyone can open the envelope and eat the candy, they have to solve the riddle on the outside. These were super fun to make and test on my kids!!

Since I'm guessing I'm not the only Costco addict out there, I made this PDF using just the clues for the candy found in the Kirkland Signature bag, making it just a little easier to put together. All you need are these PDF's, the candy from costco and tape/scissors for a fun Halloween handout!

Latter Day Saint Halloween Activity - Witches Brew - Learn ways to stay on the covenant path while making cookies - Activity Days for Latter Day Saints

This popular activity used to be the "recipe" for the Faith in God award, but since the program changed I tweaked it just a bit to be "Learn ways to stay on the covenant path". Makes for a fun Halloween activity for little witches!!

Takes about 10 minutes of prep (mostly making the banner, which is optional anyways). All you need are these pages and ingredients for the cookies. You'll need a "Witches Brew" paper for each person and just 1 set of the ingredient tents. If you want to add some extra fun, ask all the activity days comers to dress up like a witch or have a witches hat for them!

So I figured that the children could learn about how to "stay on the covenant path" by making "Swig" cookies (if you live in Utah, you probably know how fantastic these sugar cookies are).

Synopsis: Invite the activity participants to dress up like witches for this activity. Then when they arrive, they are given a swig cookie recipe without the ingredients. They must hunt down hidden clue cards that give them the correct ingredients! You can gave these in different classrooms, hidden around your house.. whatever works for you. If you have extra time you can even have little activities at each recipe answer (there's 10) that they have to complete in order to get the correct ingredient/ingredient amount. Once they have found all the ingredients, they can make the cookies!

Once  the kids arrive, give them this print-out that they can fold in half, so on either side of their half sheet they have a recipe:

On the first side, they have the "recipe" to the covenant path...

Then on the other side, they have ingredients to the "Swig" cookie. But just like witches have to hunt down ingredients for their "brews", the kids must hunt down and fill out the correct recipe for the cookies. Each Faith In God requirement is assigned a different food ingredient, with a clue to tie them together. For example:

Pray Daily = You "butter" pray, every day = 1 C Butter

Work on your Testimony = Write your testimony down so it won't spoil, that will help your lamp stay full of oil = 3/4 C Vegetable Oil.

These clue cards (there's 10 missing ingredients so there's 10 clue cards) that are hidden around a church building, around a back yard, whatever you choose have the ingredient answer.

The participants, while in their witches costumes, have to go around and fill out the recipe by finding the clue cards. Once all they have found all the clue cards and have their "Swig" Cookie Recipe all filled out, then everyone can come together to make the cookies.

While the cookies are baking, you can go over the Covenant Path and ask if they have any questions.

PLEASE NOTE: This activity has the ingredients within the activity for the
cookie base, you'll also want to plan on making the frosting :)

Articles of Faith Gymnastics Party - Primary Activity Idea - Review the Articles of Faith

So we did a gymnastics birthday party for my 8 year old girl. I thought it was pretty great!

Since I know gymnastics is super popular with this age, I thought it could also make a great primary activity! Add some balloons to a few signs and a banner, and you got yourself a party!

The idea is you give each person a "gymnastics challenge card". I put ours in name badge holders, but I think it would work great to just tie some yarn or something to each corner to make it a necklace.

Challenges come in pink and blue!

I think no matter where you are ( church, home, park, backyard) this activity can work without any equipment! Equipment (especially mats) would be nice (maybe you can borrow from someone in your ward, I know many people in my ward have at least the IKEA one).  I did make event signs so if you are being creative with "equipment" you could at least label and that should help tie the activity together. Here are some ideas:

  • if you are in a gym, you can use the basketball lines on the floor as the "beam" and maybe bring some blankets to make a "floor"
  • most any soft ottoman can work as a "vault"
  • cut old carpet to make a skinny, long piece as a beam
  • bar is a bit trickier, but a shower curtain might work
  •  you could host this activity at a park/in a backyard, using the monkey bars and grass as the "floor"

While gymnasts are waiting their turn at an event, or waiting to pass off one of their gymnastics challenges, they can pick an Articles Of Faith challenge. Once they answer that correctly, they can proceed with their turn. I would place just a pile of a about 10 cards at each event and let them rotate through the questions.

It took me about 30 minutes to put this activity together - most of the time making the Article of Faith Challenge cards that once this activity is over can be used over again ( I would keep these for any future activity downtime as a filler). The "answer card" just has all the Articles of Faith written out.

Then to end the activity, I would give each person this handout - an Article of Faith/My Gospel Standards scripture card. I call it a scripture card because it is sized to fit in standard scriptures. My kids both have one and refer it often during sacrament meeting. I laminated theirs.

If you choose to do this activity, you can save this image below as a picture on your phone and then fill in using a text tool on your phone. Once it's filled in, you can text it out to parents as their invitation to the party. Our ward uses Group Me, so I would just post this on the Activity Days GroupMe thread.

You can get my files for THIS ACTIVITY and many more HERE. Thanks for stopping by!
