Halloween Pizza Party Ingredient Labels + Invitation - Developing Talents

One of my favorite activities for Activity Days is a Pizza Party where we made our own pizzas! All the girls LOVED it and it was fun for them to make their pizza just how they like it. We just used Rhodes Rolls for the dough so really it was super easy!

 I made these labels for a family party forever ago, and thought how awesome it would be to have a Halloween Pizza Party for Activity Days!! Hopefully no one gets too grossed out!

Tithing and Budget Game - Awesome St Patrick's Day Activity - Personal Development Tithing Activity

For this activity, you'll need about 10 minutes before the activity to cut and glue the "clover cards" and 2 dice.

 The idea is that every time a participant rolls a 7, they can choose a "clover card".  You can choose to have these clover cards just on the table (as shown below) or if you want to make it a bit more fun, you can hide them around the room and they have to "work" for them. However- there are 42 clover cards... so if you make them work for the cards, you man want to hide them in bunches or else it would take a super long time to get them all.  Also if you hide them, you'll want to make sure they find them all.... the amount of credits/debits works out so there's just a bit of savings left (which they can trade in to the leader for a prize). If it's taking too long for them to get all 

 the cards, you can say that if they roll a 7, 8 or 9 then they can choose a clover card to speed things up a bit. 

The clover card will either have a yellow coin or a green expense. I tried using expenses that most typical 8-12 year olds would use in any given week (for example: toothbrush and paste - $5,  toilet paper - $10, dinner - $20). When they choose a coin card, they'll place it on the credit page. When they choose an expense card, they'll place it on the debit page (apparently this is banking use of the terms credit/debit and not accounting... either way it introduces them to some financial terms :).

Once all the clover cards have been found, it's time to budget (well, kind of). Have them count up all the coins. It should total $300 (this is important because I made the coins so they can pay for tithing, pay for the expenses and still have some left over). 

Then teach them how to figure out 10% - To find 10% all we need to do is move/shift the decimal one place to the left. Thus 10% of 300 = 30. Now would also be a good time to read 3 Nephi 24:10-11. I put it on a table tent with the name of the game on the other side.  

Next, have them match each expense with a coin as if they are paying for it. For example, place it to the side once a "$5" coin is matched with a "$5" expense. 

Once everything is paid for, they should have some savings. I figured they could be rewarded for their savings with a surprise.... maybe chocolate gold coin or something.

Enough Money

I met the missionaries when I was 17. At that time my older brother and I lived together. Our mother had passed away the year before, and life was difficult. When the missionaries taught me, I could see that this Church was the church I had always sought. But the influence of my friends prevented me from going to church on Sundays.

One time I went to a Church activity during the week. Seeing all the young people laughing and playing brought me great joy. The missionaries, with the youth, took that opportunity to teach me a gospel lesson, and I felt so good I resolved to be baptized.

But even after I joined the Church, I faced challenges. I was the only member of the Church in that part of town and lived far away from the meetinghouse. My nonmember friends no longer wanted anything to do with me. When I felt alone, I prayed and felt the love of the Lord.

Each month, I received a small allotment of money from a fund my mother left. It was difficult to sustain myself with so little money. But I determined to be obedient. I paid tithing and also had to pay for transportation to seminary and Sunday meetings. I didn’t understand how, but at the end of the month, I found that there had been enough money to do it all.

I know that I have been blessed by paying tithing. Obeying this commandment helped me gain a stronger testimony, serve a mission, and recognize blessings so I can strengthen new members who are facing challenges.

Good Morning - Developing Talents

In the Faith In God book, one of the requirements is to list five things you can do to help around your home. Discuss the importance of obeying and honoring your parents and learning how to work.

This activity has 3 parts:

Hide and Seek Activity

For the activity you can talk to the girls about how they can help around the home. To introduce this somewhat un-fun topic in hopefully a fun way, play a game of hide and seek. Write down on pieces of paper different chores and hide them around the room before the girls get to the activity. When the girls arrive, have them find the pieces of paper. Once they are all found, have the girls read aloud the papers that they found. 

Good Morning Chart

I don't know about your home, but mornings in my home can be rough. I think one of the best ways these girls can learn to obey and honor their parents (and maybe help their sanity) is by learning a good morning routine! Hence, the Good Morning chart. The whole point of this chart is to have it done before they go to school, without anyone coaxing or asking them. Have each girl come up with one thing they are going to do every morning to help the family out that they will include on their "Good Morning Cards". After you have each girl share what they came up with, have them write it down on their cards and then cut their cards up so they are ready to start the next day. 

 Each morning, once they have marked off "say prayer, make bed, brush teeth & hair, read scriptures, personal choice", then they tape the piece of paper onto the chart. Once they have completed their whole morning routine for about a month and their chart is completed, they can return it to a leader for a treat :). 

Make Pancakes

And then, to go along with our morning theme and learning to do work, have the girls make pancakes without any help from the leader. Let them figure out how much water goes with the batter, and prepare any toppings. You can also have them set a table and then do the dishes :)

Activity Days Faith In God "Witches Brew" Covenant Path

Since the program changed in 2020, I updated this activity to be "stay on the covenant path" since there's no Faith In God award anymore! Just a couple things were tweaked but this still makes an awesome activity!!

This "Faith In God Treasure Hunt" was so popular, that I wanted to so something similar for Halloween: Faith In God Witches Brew.

Synopsis: Invite the girls to dress up like witches for this activity. Then when they arrive, they are given a recipe but without the ingredients. They must hunt down hidden clue cards that give them the correct ingredients, just like we must work for our Faith In God award. Once they have found all the ingredients, they can make the cookies!

So I figured that the girls could learn about how to get their Faith In God award by making "Swig" cookies (if you live in Utah, you probably know how fantastic these sugar cookies are). So the idea is that the ingredients to the "Witches Brew" come together to make the Faith In God Award, similar to how ingredients make cookies. 

 Once  the girls arrive, give them this print-out that they can fold in half, so on either side of their half sheet they have a recipe: 

On the first side, they have the "ingredients" to the Faith In God award, which hopefully

 by the end of the lesson they will be more familiar with.

Then on the other side, they have ingredients to the "Swig" cookie. But just like witches have to hunt down ingredients for their "brews", the girls must hunt down and fill out the correct recipe for the cookies. Each Faith In God requirement is assigned a different food ingredient, with a clue to tie them together. For example:

Pray Daily = You "butter" pray, every day = 1 C Butter 

Write Your Testimony = Write your testimony down so it won't spoil, that will help your lamp stay full of oil = 3/4 C Vegetable Oil. 

These clue cards can be hidden around a church building, around a back yard... anywhere. The girls, while in their witches costumes, have to go around and fill out the recipe by finding the clue cards. Once all the girls have found all the clue cards and have their "Swig" Cookie Recipe all filled out, then everyone can come together to make the cookies. While the cookies are baking, you can go over the Faith In God award requirements and ask the girls if they have any questions about getting their award.

Activity Days Faith in God Worksheets

Make completing activities from the Faith in God book easy with worksheets!

As I was going through the book there are quite a few activities where you have to write something down, explain something or make lists. I thought it would be really great for the girls to have a place to write all these things down. Having them on the same template can bring consistency and even help the girls get quite a few activities done quickly (I thought of naming these worksheets "Faith In God for the procrastinator").  The girls are asked to complete 2 activities each year for Learning and Living the Gospel, Serving Other and Developing Talents. There are at least three worksheets below for each of those sections.

Listed below are the section and activity from the Faith in God book:

Learning and Living the Gospel

1. THE SACRAMENT

Explain how taking the sacrament helps you renew your baptismal covenant. In a family home evening, teach others about things we can do to remain faithful.

2. THE FIRST VISION

Give a family home evening lesson on Joseph Smith’s First Vision (see Joseph Smith—History 1:1–20). Discuss how Heavenly Father answers our sincere prayers.

3. THE HOLY GHOST

Mark these verses about the Holy Ghost in your scriptures: John 14:16–17, 2 Nephi 32:5, and Moroni 10:5. Discuss ways the Holy Ghost helps you.

4. FOLLOW THE PROPHET

Read a recent conference address given by the prophet. Decide what you can do to follow the prophet, and do it.

5. PRAYER

Give an opening and a closing prayer in family home evening or at Primary. Share your feelings about how prayer protects us and helps us to stay close to Heavenly Father and the Savior.

6. FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST

Tell a story from the Book of Mormon that teaches about faith inJesus Christ. Share your testimony of the Savior.

 7. THE WORD OF WISDOM

Read D&C 89. Discuss how Heavenly Father blesses us when we faithfully live the Word of Wisdom. Help plan and conduct an activity to teach the Word of Wisdom to others.

8. AGENCY

Learn to sing “Choose the Right” (Hymns, no. 239). Explain what agency is and what it means to be responsible for your choices. Discuss how making good choices has helped you develop greater faith.

Serving Others

9. LETTER

Write a letter to a teacher, your parents, or your grandparents telling them what you appreciate and respect about them.

10. QUALITIES

Make a list of the qualities you like in a person. Choose one quality to develop in yourself. Discuss how showing respect and kindness strengthens you, your family, and others.

11. GOOD CITIZEN

Read the twelfth article of faith. Discuss what it means to be a good citizen and how your actions can affect others.

Developing Talents

12. TITHING

Learn how to budget and save money. Discuss why it is important to faithfully pay our tithing and how Heavenly Father blesses us when we do (see 3 Nephi 24:10–11). Pay your tithing and begin saving for a mission.

13.PREPARE FOR SERVICE

Learn to sing, play, or lead a song from the Children’s Songbook.Teach or share the song in a family home evening or at Primary. Discuss how developing talents helps prepare us for service to Heavenly Father and others.

14. PRINCIPLES OF THE GOSPEL

Write a poem, story, or short play that teaches a principle of the gospel or is about Heavenly Father’s creations.

15. SEEK LEARNING

Read D&C 88:118. Discuss what it means to “seek learning, even by study and also by faith.” Improve your personal study habits by doing such things as learning how to choose and read good books or being prepared for school each day.

16. LEARN TO WORK

List five things you can do to help around your home. Discuss the importance of obeying and honoring your parents and learning how to work.

 Preparing for Young Women

17. SEEKING VIRTUE

After studying the thirteenth article of faith, make a list of things that are uplifting and virtuous. Discuss with a parent or leader how you can seek after these things.

18. TRUTH AND RIGHTEOUSNESS

Write in your journal how you can serve the Lord as you stand for truth and righteousness.

19. GOOD EDUCATION

Read D&C 88:77–80, 118 and D&C 130:19. Discuss with a parent or Primary leader how important a good education is and how it can help strengthen your home and family and in the Church.

20. PROCLAMATION

Read “The Family: A Proclamation to the World.” Make a list of things you can do to help strengthen your family and make a happy home. Share the list with your parents or Primary leader.
