Youth Activities and Goals Kit for 2020

Momentarily interrupting this primarily Primary blog with a YOUTH Activities and Goals kit. Very similar to the Primary kit, I tweaked a few things to make this work for the youth. Hoping this can be helpful in organizing goal-oriented activities and helping leaders and parents support the youth in their goals :)

Primary Activities Planning Meeting

So I have these pages available in the "Primary Activities Kit', but wanted to explain them a little more. If you are a little confused about where to start with this new program... you are not alone! While I am no authority on how this should all be done... I thought I would share how I would go about being a Primary Leader and holding activities. 

1 - Host a planning meeting with all the youth. Go over the 4 categories and read their descriptions. Have them brainstorm goals they would like to work on and jot down a bunch of ideas ready to share with the whole group. 

2- After brainstorming lots of goals, have each child decide on one for each category and start thinking about ways they want to accomplish it. This does not need to be shared and can be personal. Also give each child a parent support sheet to take home. Please note there are extra spots under each category. The children were told once they completed their goal, they can choose to work on another one. They may want another copy of the "Personal Development Goals" page, but the parents can keep track of all the goals the child worked on that year in one place. Also, if a child wanted to keep a goal private, a parent could just write "private goal". 

 3- Once the youth have decided on their goals, you can ask if there are any that would like to complete their goal during a Primary activity. They would be in charge of that Primary activity and would plan and organize everything. Have them choose a date, describe the activity and tell you which category their goals falls under. You can start to fill in this calendar and build what your activities will look like together. If there are activities that a youth is not in charge (depending on how many youth you have), then the leader can decide what the activity will be and fill in where needed.

Calendars are also available in 4 months

Kindness Workshop and Challenge - Primary Activity

A new activity is up in the shop!! I am pretty excited about this one. I call it a "Kindness Workshop". It has 5 different stations and a challenge to take home and work on for about a month. Aside from these pages, you will need pens, scissors and glue. You will also want a little baggie for each participant to bring their challenge home. I recommend having your youth pair up and picking a station. Not each station will take the exact same amount of time, so I would let them rotate just as soon as they are done. All of this is also available in a more blue color scheme... I know some boys who would be turned off by the pink ;) Here are the stations:

Large 2020 Calendar Poster

I like a calendar where you can see the bigger picture... and not only is this bigger picture, but it's also big enough to see and work with! Thought I would share this here for any Primary Presidents hoping to plan their year out. 

Primary Activities and Goals Kit - Latter Day Saint Primary Activity Organizer

HEY there!

So excited about all the changes we have seen to the Primary Program! I've had a few people ask me if I was going to update my trusty old "Starter Kit" and the answer is finally YES! Most of this kit is the same.... it has an Information Sheet, Attendance Sheet, Calendars, Brainstorm Goals, My Primary Goals, Birthday and Planning sheets. The main difference is there is no "tracking sheet" anymore. HOWEVER- I did include a "Support Sheet". 

 I put A TON of thought into this, and wanted to share why I made this "Support Sheet". Sister Jones encouraged children to start setting one goal per year in each area of growth (spiritual, social, intellectual and physical) beginning the year they turn 8. She also said that “Leaders and parents, keep in mind that you help children and youth best when you support their efforts instead of tracking them. Some goals, after all, are private,” Sister Jones added.

This "Support Sheet" is meant to the leader to track (yes, I'm afraid to use that word) THEMSELVES. We've been asked as leaders to support the youth. This is to help leaders remember where they have supported already and where they might be able to support some more.

And in case 6 months is overwhelming and four months seems manageable, the calendars also come in 4 months at a time set up.  

This Personal Development Handout is also included. I made this to be laminated and reused, so naturally I wanted to utilize the back too! If you don't have a laminator, this is still great for one time use so many they get working on at least 1 goal!!

Gospel Standards Starburst Scramble - Latter Day Saint Activity

This activity is similar to the Articles of Faith Hunt.  and is an awesome activity to do outside!

There are 13 "My Gospel Standards". Each one is split into three pieces (39 total). 

For this activity, have the players find all the pieces (hidden in a room or outside) and put them in the correct order. These pieces were sized to fit a starburst double pack. For extra fun, split your group into two... Pink Team VS. Red Red Team and have them race each other!!

Depending on how you want to do the activity, you would need:

39 Starbursts: If you are only doing 1 set (not a competition) and want to attach each "piece" to a starburst

OR

78 Starbursts: If you are having two teams compete and you are using BOTH Pink and Red

OR

Simply attach a Starburst to each handout. You can scatter the pieces without any Starbursts and have players find just the "pieces" of paper.

Once they have found all the pieces... it should look something like this. If you have extra time, you have can have the players scramble all the pieces and put them back in order again :)

Articles of Faith Hunt / Easter Activity

A super fun Easter activity!

Each of the 13 Articles of Faith have been split up into 3 pieces (making a total of 39). 

With all the pieces prepared on either either Easter eggs or chocolate (pieces are sized to fit "treasures" but can really be put on anything you want), prepare them for an Easter egg hunt. Players must find all 3 pieces to each Article of Faith and then put the pieces in the correct order. Hide the pieces well if you want this to take a long time, or not so well for a faster activity. 

 If you would like two teams to race each other, assign each team a color (blue or pink) for a total of 78 pieces. They are only allowed to pick up pieces in their color. The first team to find all their pieces AND put the Articles of Faith in the correct order, WINS!

This activity took me about 20 minutes to cut, tape and spread eggs out :). Once the pages are cut, folded and glued, each "piece" will be double sided... with the number on one side and the Articles of faith piece on the other. 

If there is extra time, let the players fill out this handout :)
