Latter Day Saint Temple Activity : Take a "trip" to a temple or host in a church and learn about the covenants we make in the temple.

We did a primary activity at the Temple and I loved it!! Loved it so much I wanted to create this sort of activity guide so others could do this activity too! You should be able to use these files at any temple... and if you don't meet at a nearby park, you can perhaps meet on the far side of the stake center and still have a little walk to the temple together.

So we met at a nearby park and told all the parents to meet us there. There was a little playground and some parking in the shade and we let the kids play there until we were ready to start the activity. Then we all walked to the temple together (like a few blocks). 

Then we had a different leader be in charge of a "stop". So I talked about Baptism for the dead, another leader talked about Endowments and another talked about Sealings.

 I got to give credit to one of the leaders for this idea... she was darling and had signs for each covenant we make during the Endowment and I thought it was so great! She also talked about how a heart is a symbol. The heart in our chest that beats and gives us life isn't actually in the shape of a "heart". And there's a lot of symbols in the temple that represent Christ and the covenants we make with God. Loved that analogy!!  

So then I made these "signs" that a leader can hold up at each station with a script on the back for what you can share at each place. All the information can be found online. 

BUT since I know not everyone can make it to a temple to have this activity, I also made it to have at any church, with a couple extra signs to put on doors.

Primary Carnival - Latter Day Saint Primary Activity - Games and Gospel Learning

 

                                                                          

I wanted to make an all-encompassing primary lessons, super easy and cheap but BIG fun activity and I think this might just hit the mark! 

This activity has 5 carnival games that are super easy - I did not have to purchase a single material for this... I already had everything at my house! 

Basically there are 5 games, each with a different gospel topic and before a participant can play the game, they have to answer a gospel question. 

The 5 games with their gospel topic are:
1. Article of Faith - Egg Crate Toss
2. My Gospel Standards - Ladder Toss
3. Baptismal Covenant - Bottle Toss
4. Book of Mormon - Ball and Cup Toss
5. Alpha and Omega (Christ) - Tower Toss

For each game:
1. Player must first answer a gospel question.
2. Player gets 2 turns at the carnival game plus a bonus turn if they answered their gospel question correctly (with or without help).

Suggested use:
Divide your group up and send to each game (if you had 10 players, you'd have 2 at each game). Have them take their turn and then wait for the others to play. Then have each group rotate.

Primary Activity Book Of Mormon Hero Guess Who!? Learn about Scripture Heroes from the Book of Mormon

Get to know the Book of Mormon Heroes! And who doesn't like getting (good) mail!?

Here's how it works: 

1. Pick a volunteer to open a letter from the mailbox.

2. The letter will have a "clue card" with a letter from a scripture hero telling you about themself.

3. As a group, see if you can figure out who the letter is from (some are definitely easier than others)

4. Once you figure out who the letter is from (don't worry, cheats are provided for the leaders), turn over their scripture card and read a scripture about them.

5. Fill in the missing word from the scripture onto a worksheet. Discuss how that scripture hero demonstrated their descriptive quality. 

Hopefully this is a good overview of the Book of Mormon and can teach just a little bit about some scripture heroes!

My Gospel Standards Tournament - Complete Latter Day Saint Primary Activity

 

Fun way to learn about My Gospel Standards!!

Complete primary activity that should take about an hour. 

PREP: Should only take about 2o mins to prepare flashcards and matching game (trim paper & glue) and then spread stations around a room. If you're doing this at a church you can even go from room to room or if you're just in a cultural hall you can set up some tables. I did this with my 2 kids just around our kitchen table and that worked too!

TOURNAMENT:

1. Start the activity by giving each player a scorecard. Tell players the goal is to get as many points as they can within a certain time at each station. They probably won’t have time to finish everything at each station, but they can take it home and finish later if they want. 

                            

2. Next divide into groups and assign a starting station to each group (depending on how many players). I would pair players up so they aren’t alone at a station.

3. Directions for each station are included... this page is designed to be folded in half and made into a table tent with directions on both sides. I would give about 5 minutes per station and then rotate.

                          

4. Once players have a turn at each station, the players with the most points win.

                             

Etiquette "Jeoparty", Etiquette Handout and Invitation- Primary Activity Social

Teach Etiquette with a game of "Jeoparty"  - hopefully the kids feel like they are learning while having fun! This activity was my sister's idea... I helped her make it and she said the kids had a total blast! 

I would invite the kids into a room with table and chairs but no place settings- yet. Maybe see how much your children know without any help. Have them set their own table setting and then once everyone has tried, pass out the Etiquette "handout". Allow them to fix their set up and then as the activity continues, allow them to practice good table manners. While the kids are eating (super fun food idea below!) you can play Jeoparty and they can have the hand out to refer to.

Primary Trick Or Treat Halloween Activity - Teach the Latter Day Saint Personal Development Primary Program - Primary Activity

 

HEY Primary Leaders!!

I hope it hasn't been as hard for you getting back into the swing of primary activities as it has been for me! Such a crazy year... but hopefully we can all get back to it!

So I know so many are confused about the new program. I stemmed this activity off of a treasure hunt from a couple years ago (when the new program came out) in hopes to help teach the program not only to the kids, but the leaders too!

For this activity, you can get my files HERE on my Etsy and you will also need: 

-  10 pieces of candy per child

-  1 bag per child (I used brown paper bags) 

-  Tape

-  Bowls to put the candy in

Primary Trick Or Treat - Print one for each child. 

You can set this up anyway you want to really. One option is to have the trick or treaters go from classroom to classroom in a church, you could have them go from room to room of a house or if you would like to get out and have ward members involved (or parents) you could ask them to pass out the candy and travel around a neighborhood. It would just take a little extra prep work to distribute the candy to the homes beforehand. If you do that, I recommend using these included door signs so kids know which houses to go to :)

You will want to put all the candy with the taped candy covers on it in one bowl for each category. So for example, all the candy with "spiritual goals" written on the candy cover will all go in one bowl, behind the "spiritual goals" residence. 

After collecting all the candy (10 pieces total), the children will remove
 the candy cover from the candy and place it on their map. They should be
able to use the same tape that was used to tape the candy cover to the candy. 

And Voila! Hopefully a super fun way to teach the new primary program!.

Goal Board Achievement Board

As I was working on goals with my littles, I wanted them to be able to mark off when they completed their goal or progress towards their goal. I got a metal board from IKEA and some small achievement stickers from Amazon (okay, I also got a laminator but I've wanted one for a while and it is an investment!).

This is how my board turned out and I LOVE IT. I put it right outside their bedrooms and they pass by it everyday, reminding them to work on their goals. I laminated the background page to make it easier to switch out goals.
