Aim For Virtue- Latter Day Saint Valentines Activity - Seek Virtue, Lovely, Good Report and Praiseworthy things

I wanted to make a Valentine's activity using the the thirteenth Article of Faith since it mentions love and being uplifting and virtuous. For this activity you'll also need either a Nerf gun or bow and arrow about 15 mins to cut out hearts and make scripture cards and candy (candy is optional).

1. Thirteenth Article of Faith Race

For the first part of the activity, divide the group into two groups and have in an envelope these slips of paper with the 13th Article of Faith written on them. The first group to get it in order, wins. I think this is an awesome way for the participants to familiarize themselves with the 13th Article of Faith.

2. Scripture Word Guess

For the next part of the activity, I made 15 scriptures "cards" - The first side has the scripture with a missing word and the other side has the missing word. Choose a volunteer to go first (you could keep the teams from before and let the two teams compete to see who can guess the most words. If they guess the wrong word, the other team could steal). Here's how I put them together:

3. Aim for Virtue and Love

I think this part will be the most fun. The girls can be little Valentine cupids and with a Nerf gun or bow and arrow (dollar store normally has both of these) and "Aim for Virtue and Love" by trying to hit one of these 32 hearts with qualities/traits written on them. If you still have the two teams you could ask for a volunteer from each team and give them each a gun. The girl that hits the most hearts in 1 minute, wins a point for their team. OR- If they are taking individual turns, they can get a candy for each heart that they hit. There are also 15 smaller black hearts that if they end up hitting maybe they are deducted a point or have to swallow a yucky jelly bean or something.

*** I edited the hearts to be bigger and easier to cut out since the ones shown here***

At the end of this activity, I would encourage each girl to choose a virtue they would like to work on (maybe they can pick a virtue heart from the wall and bring it home with them). Ask them to go home and discuss with their parent ways they can be better.

Stand As A Witness Of God - Preparing for Young Womens

One of the memories I have from becoming a Young Women, was how intimidated I was by the Young Women theme. When everyone stood up and recited it on that first Sunday, I remember thinking how embarrassing it would be if I didn't memorize it too, and quick!

In the Faith In God book, one of the requirements is "Talk with the beehive class presidency or a member of the Young Women presidency about the purpose and importance of the Young Women program."

On the cover of the Personal Progress book it says "Standing As A Witness Of God", and I wanted to make that theme very clear throughout this activity. As the requirement says, you can invite the beehive class presidency (or I think just one beehive would still be great) to the activity to talk about the purpose and importance of the Young Women program.

There are 5 tournament stations (Matching, Searching, Solving, Arranging, Questioning). The idea is that there are at least two girls at each station. If you have a lot of girls, then you can put your girls in pairs and have four at each station, so there's two that get to work together. They have a scorecard, and the girl with the most points at the end, WINS! Each station has a table tent with the station name, and instructions on the back for the girls to know what to do.

1. Matching - Take turns matching each value with its definition. For each match you get, you get 2 points. Don't worry, there's a cheat sheet just in case you need one :)

2. Searching - Race the other team in searching the scripture on each value. Place all the cards face down, and when everyone is ready, you can turn one over.  The first person to the scripture gets to read the scripture to everyone, and wins. They also get to choose the next card to turn over. 2 points for every time to win the scripture search.

3. Solving - Just like working on our Personal Progress can help us to become more like our Heavenly Father, use the key to solve this riddle and find out the Young Women Motto! 5 points for solving the riddle.

4. Arranging - Put the YW theme in the correct order. Have two of these word scrambles printed. The two teams can race each other and the first team to put the theme in the correct order, wins!

5. Answering - I didn't have a copy of a personal progress book at my home, but this station is for the girls to get a look a personal progress book, and ask questions about Young Women's. If you can have a beehive come, they can sit at this station and answer any questions the girls might have as they look through a Personal Progress book. 1 point for every question the girls ask.

Scorecard:

At the end of the activity, give the girls this handout to put in their scriptures so they have easy access to the theme, especially for those first few months on Sunday when they it :)

Activity Days Thirteenth Mystery - Latter Day Saint Primary Activity - 13th Mystery - Two teams race and compete to solve a 13th Article of Faith Mystery!

After studying the thirteenth article of faith, we can make a list of things that are uplifting and virtuous. Discuss with a parent or leader how you can seek after these things.

This is a SUPER easy activity with set up in less than 20 minutes. All you should need is scissors and these printables (obviously the attendees might appreciate a treat to or two though :) and if you choose to use envelopes (but you don't need to)

PART ONE: hide the clues

PART TWO: make two teams, race to find the clues

PART THREE: solve that the clues make the 13th Article of Faith

PART FOUR: Uplifting and Virtuous Discussion.

In other words....

I wanted to make a Halloween activity, and thought it would be fun to solve a "13th Mystery". So once all the girls have arrived at the activity, split them into two groups: The Orange Team, and The Purple Team. In a sealed envelope, and telling them they can't share any of the clues with the other team (to add to the mystery) give them their instructions and clue tracking sheet.

Here are the "Purple Team's" instructions:

Then you'll want to have these 13 different "clues" that make up the 13th Article of Faith hidden for both the Purple Team and Orange Team. Put them in an envelope and label the envelopes with the provided "clue labels" (black envelopes not provided... and if you don't have envelopes, you could just set the label by the clues). That way the girls can keep track of which clues they have gotten on their clue tracker (the girls can assign one of the teammates to be in charge of this).

I think this activity would actually be pretty great in an LDS church building. I've always thought an empty building with all the lights off was kind of creepy. You can have the clues spread out in the different classrooms and kind of hidden so they really have to look (depending on how long you want this part of the activity to be). Another option is having all the clues hidden in a dark gymnasium and giving the girls flashlights. They would probably think that was pretty neat... and you can tie in later that the flashlight was a way to help us learn to be uplifting and virtuous... kind of like the scriptures. I did this activity in a backyard and it was really fun.

SO you'll want to cut these clues up on the dotted line and then assign them a clue number (I don't think it should be in order following the Article of Faith.... just random)

Then, once the girls have found all the clues, they can work on "solving the mystery" and putting the Article of Faith in order. I imagine this being done on a chalk board with tape or magnets and the girls working together to get it right. Since the "Purple and "Orange" teams will be racing each other, hopefully that will be added incentive. Once they have done that, you can give them this "answer" to place next to their completed Article of Faith:

Once they done and have the completed Article of Faith up in front of them, now they can split up and do this worksheet on their own:

Save this picture on your phone to send as an  electronic invitation! Put place, date and time in the blank space at the bottom using a text  editor on your phone.

Ive updated these files a bit... looks like this now :)

Activity Days Faith in God Worksheets

Make completing activities from the Faith in God book easy with worksheets!

As I was going through the book there are quite a few activities where you have to write something down, explain something or make lists. I thought it would be really great for the girls to have a place to write all these things down. Having them on the same template can bring consistency and even help the girls get quite a few activities done quickly (I thought of naming these worksheets "Faith In God for the procrastinator").  The girls are asked to complete 2 activities each year for Learning and Living the Gospel, Serving Other and Developing Talents. There are at least three worksheets below for each of those sections.

Listed below are the section and activity from the Faith in God book:
