Sweet Kids - Sour Patch Kids Box Cover + Service List - Serving Others

After having any service activity (make someone cookies, visit old folk home, babysit for new mom etc.), give the youth this "Service List". If they complete all the items on the list, they can earn a box of sour patch kids! OR you can give them the box of candy after your service activity, give them the list and tell them to continue serving others. 

Notice the cute little Sour Patch Kids are holding hands? Serving others can bring us together!

I wanted to make these versatile... so whether you are using this for an Activity Days, for a Primary activity, Family Home Evening, Sunday School activity etc... one of these titles should work. I made four different box covers/service list:

Temple Date Night Sign-Up Sheet & Babysitting Coupons - Serving Others

Help the youth serve others with babysitting for the temple! Since Activity Day aged youth are not old enough to do temple work, help them allow others to do temple work.

Here are two ways to do this - with "babysitting coupons" and with a "babysitting sign-up" sheet:

Babysitting Coupons: After visiting the temple grounds and walking around the temple for an Activity Days activity (maybe also have them bring their journals and give them some alone time to write in them, sing songs, and if possible watch a temple movie in the lobby), give each youth the "babysitting coupons" that they can take home with them, fill out and then give to whoever they choose/are comfortable with.  If you have a younger group (8 may be too young to offer babysitting) maybe have them team up and pass out the "babysitting coupons" in couples.

Babysitting Sign Up: Make this the activity for activity days. Maybe plan on using the Nursery Room at the church, or maybe even the gym. Print the sign-up sheet ahead of time and allow it to circulate in Relief Society, Primary and Young Women's so the moms in the ward have a chance to sign-up. This will also give you an idea on whose planning on coming. You'll need to schedule your Activity Days for a little longer on the day you do this. Please note the sign-up sheet says "a leader will also be there", so the leader should plan on attending, but allow the  youth to primarily be responsible.  If doing this for Activity Days, this will allow the younger youth to babysit with a supervisor, a good way to start babysitting. Maybe have each youth come to the activity with a different game or song they will be responsible in leading.

** When filling out the time on the sign-up sheet, I recommend putting a time frame. Ex. 4pm-7pm... so the parents know they should plan on being back around 7pm.

Flower A Porch - Serving Others

There are so many things you can do with these flowers! One idea is to "flower a porch" for new members in the ward/welcome a baby/bishopric/elderly... whoever!  Have the girls make bunch of there flowers and then leave them on the porch. Grab some tissue paper and pipe cleaner at the dollar store, spend the first part of the activity making the flowers, then the second part delivering :)

Get To Know You Bunco - Activity Days - "Social Personal Development"

Much to my husband’s confusion, Bunco isn’t exactly a competitive game that I play with my girlfriends to “win”. I love Bunco because it has been an opportunity for me to get to know the ladies in my ward and neighborhood much better. Some nights when we play, we only get through two rounds because we are chatting so much—but I think that is kind of the point. 

I know it can be hard to get to know Activity Days girls/boys (and even the other leaders), so I’ve been trying to come up with activity for this for a while, and since somehow rolling dice is as thrilling to my 5 year old as it can be to me—why not an Activity Days Bunco!?

For those of you who know how to play Bunco— this is just a bit different because at the end of each round, the winner chooses a “Question Card” to ask the other team… hopefully spiking some conversation.

 

For those of you who don't know how to play - it's basically a dice rolling game in which you receive points for what you roll. You normally play in multiples of 4 - but since I know that's unpredictable with Activity Days, this can be tweaked with either leaders joining in/out, by having a "ghost" (one player rolls for two people) or even just having the girls play in pairs and keep track of their own points. Here are the rules: 

 For this activity, you will need:

· Bunco Cards 

· Question Cards

· Dice (3) for each table

· Bell (optional - start/end of each round can also be yelled out)

· "Travelling beaver" (optional - usually a stuffed dice/animal - for the player with the last bunco 

I made this activity with different holiday themes - just for a little added festivity :)

Cupcake Wars - Latter Day Saint Primary Activity

In the Faith in God book under Serving Others, there is the following requirement: Plan and hold a parent-child activity, such as a dinner, picnic, hike, day trip, or service project. My ward did a Mother-Daughter CupCakeWars activity and it was great! I thought it could be super fun for the girls to plan this themselves. 

Maybe you can spend about 20 minutes at the end of an activity to let the girls plan the CupcakeWars as their next activity. They can totally plan how they want to do it… but you can help them out by providing the invitations that they fill out, deciding what they want and making assignments (perhaps have someone prepare the cupcakes ahead of time, but have them ready to be decorated) and once it’s time for the activity, they can fill out the food cards and make sure they have everything. Then they can decide how they would like the cupcakes to be judged... maybe the Activity Day leaders can be the judges, or maybe the girl's can invite the primary presidency or their primary teacher. 

I made two invitations:

Have the girls fill out the assignments and staple their little assignment paper to their invitation. Have them also make a master list for the leaders so someone knows what everyone is bringing:

Either prepared ahead of time or right at the beginning of the event, have the girls fill out the food labels to put on the table: 

Have each Mother/Daguther/Friend team make up a name for their cupcakes. That way the judges won't know whose is who, but can announce a winner using their team name. Have them place their "name table tent" right next to their cupcakes. 

And then have these awards ready... let the girls choose whether they want the judge to do "first, second and third" or "most appetizing, most colorful, most unique, most creative". I also made one that says "awesome" in case every girl would like to get something. As the leader, maybe you can even purchase prizes ahead of time for the winners.

The Buckle Toy - Serving Others

My little girl is obsessed with buckles. She goes crazy around strollers and will throw a fit if I don't let her buckle her own car seat. I thought I came up with a million dollar idea when I made this buckle toy... turns out there's plenty of other people before me.

 My daughter absolutely LOVES this toy. It has been a total lifesaver on car trips and when I need her to be quiet for just a minute. I was making a couple extra ones for friends and family when I thought this could make an awesome Faith In God activity.

These are easy to make, a great use of scrap material and ribbon, and allows the girls to get their hands on a sewing machine. I thought this would be a great service activity where the girls could donate them to the ward's nursery, or even to individual families with littles for them to use as a quiet toy during sacrament. I think it would be fun to make this activity two weeks... let the girls shop and pick out the materials the first week, then make them the second. OR... make them in the first week and for the second week deliver them to homes with little ones so the girls can see them play with the toy :)

To make mine I just used scrap material, I ordered the buckles on Amazon and got ribbon from Hobby Lobby (using the 40% off coupon) and the dollar store. I was actually super surprised at the great selection at the dollar store... they didn't have any polka dot or super cute ribbon, but they had plenty of solid colors... where any solid color roll was 2.99 at Hobby Lobby.


1. Choose your fabric, ribbon and buckles. You'll need two pieces of fabric that are the same size, and two pieces of ribbon for each buckle.  It doesn't really matter what shape or size the fabric is, but I made mine long and skinny so that I would use less ribbon (about 3.5*10 inches). You just want to cut your ribbon a bit short of the width of your fabric (about 3.25 inches - accounts for the buckle) so that the two buckles come together nicely when it's done.

2. Sew the ribbon with the buckle onto the front side of the fabric. 

 

3. Thread the second piece of ribbon through the buckle and sew on the other side. 

4. Place the second piece of fabric right side down on top of the first piece of fabric with the buckles/ribbon sewn on. Sew the two pieces together on three sides, leaving one side un-sewn so you can turn it inside out.

 5. Turn the toy inside out and sew the last side shut, and VOILA!
